THEY ARE HERE!

Every year for the past 5 years we have monitored the arrival of the swifts in the Old Town of Palma, and they have always come between March 22nd and 28th, a remarkable record when you consider that they have flown to us from south of the African Sahara. This year they appeared on March 25th, in the evening. A few pairs, maybe 10 birds. A few days later and there are at least a hundred. They are very welcome back to our city!

Most of the swifts breeding in Europe spend our winter months in South Africa, flying over 9000 kms when they leave us, and the same when they return
